LSU New Orleans Email and Account Transition FAQ
This FAQ explains what faculty, staff, students, alumni, graduates, and retirees should know about LSU New Orleans email addresses, account access, and related services during the transition.
1. General Information
Why is this change happening?
As part of the transition to LSU New Orleans, the university is updating various systems, services, and communications to align with our new institutional identity.
Our goal is to make this transition as seamless as possible while minimizing disruption to faculty, staff, and students.
What should I expect on July 1?
Most users should experience little to no disruption to their daily work.
You should continue using university technology resources as you normally do while we gradually introduce LSU New Orleans branding and services.
Will I need to do anything on July 1?
No action will be required.
If any action becomes necessary, detailed instructions will be provided well in advance.
2. Access to University Services and Applications
Will access to Workday, Canvas, Microsoft Office 365, and other university-related applications work with my LSU New Orleans account?
Yes. All university applications and university-related applications will be accessible to currently enrolled students and currently employed faculty and staff members.
Will I need to reinstall software or reconfigure my computer now that I have a new LSU New Orleans account?
No. Most users should not need to make changes to their computers, mobile devices, or software subscriptions because of their new LSU New Orleans accounts.

3. Email
Will my email address change?
Yes. Your email address will change to the following format: yourcurrentusername@lsuneworleans.edu.
Your current username will remain the same, with only the email domain changing from @uno.edu to @lsuneworleans.edu.
Will my password change?
No. Your password will not change.
Where will I go if I need to change my password?
You can visit (active July 1) to change your password yourself or contact the IT Support line at (504) 280-4357.
Will my current 海角社区 email address stop working?
No. Your current 海角社区 email address will continue to receive messages during the transition period.
The university currently anticipates maintaining this forwarding service for approximately one year following the transition. Additional communication will be provided before any changes to this service occur.
If someone sends an email to my 海角社区 address, will I still receive it?
Yes. The email will be redirected to your new LSU New Orleans email account.
4. Alumni and Graduating Student Accounts
I am a 海角社区 alum. Will I keep my 海角社区 email account?
Currently, yes. However, LSU New Orleans plans to discontinue university-funded alumni email accounts in the future.
Following official notification from the university, alumni email accounts will remain active for three major semesters, Fall and Spring, before becoming eligible for deactivation and removal.
Additional communications will be provided regarding timelines and steps alumni should take to preserve any emails, contacts, files, or other information they wish to retain.
I am graduating this semester. Will I have access to my LSU New Orleans account after I graduate?
Yes. However, under LSU New Orleans policy, graduating students retain access to their university email account for three major semesters, Fall and Spring, following their graduation date.
After this period, the account becomes eligible for deactivation and removal.
As a recent graduate, you should:
- Monitor official university communications regarding account access.
- Save any personal emails, files, contacts, or other information you wish to retain.
- Update personal contact information with organizations that may use your university email address.
What happens to my email account after the grace period ends?
Once the grace period expires, the email account will be disabled and eventually removed in accordance with university policy.
5. Retiree Accounts
Retiree accounts include Retiree, Emeritus Retiree, and Gratis Retiree accounts.
Will retirees lose access to their university email account?
No. Retirees will not lose access to their email account.
Under LSU New Orleans policy, retirees will retain their university email only.
To keep the retiree account in good standing, you must follow the renewal process outlined in LSU New Orleans policy.
Will I be able to use Microsoft Office 365 with my retiree account?
No, unless you have Emeritus and/or Gratis status.
If an exception is requested to activate a Microsoft Office 365 license for a retiree who does not have Emeritus and/or Gratis status, the request will be reviewed by a governing board.
Will retirees continue to receive university communications?
Yes. Retirees who maintain their university email account may continue to receive communications and announcements sent through university channels.
